Celebration for Change

CFC Logo- web.jpg A Night of Celebration Raises Vital Funds to Change Lives in South Louisiana

On May 3, 2012, board members and supporters invited friends, family and colleagues to the Manship Theatre to learn more about the positive change that can be made in South Louisiana by supporting the services of Volunteers of America.  We were very honored to have Whitney Vann serve as our emcee for the evening.  Board Treasurer Leo Abel also spoke passionately about his involvement with Volunteers of America and how the organization built a community of support for his brother who lived at our Baton Rouge Residential program.  Joining him as speakers were VOAGBR President and CEO Jane Shank and VOAGBR Chief Operating Officer Shelia Sterling. Thanks to the support of our sponsors (below), all costs of the night were covered!

This year's video told the story of Beth McAdams who has lived at our Westmoreland Community Home for over 10 years.  Beth went from crisis after high school to being able to accomplish a very special goal.  Her story highlights the programs that Volunteers of America offers to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The highlight of the evening was a surprise announcement from Board Chair and long-time supporter Bill O'Quin on behalf of himself and his wife, Gail.  The O'Quin's generously offered to match every dollar raised that night.  Because of the overwhelming response from the audience, our sponsors and this gift, our 5th annual Celebration for Change was the most successful to date!  With the generosity of our supporters, Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge is changing lives like Beth's EVERY DAY and, together, we celebrate each and every success!  Thank you to everyone who attended!
