Mental Health Support and Housing
Volunteers of America has been providing mental health support programs in South Louisiana since 1989. Across Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Charles, our programs promote and maintain effective life functioning for mental health consumers in the community. Our ultimate goals are to help the people we serve make informed life-choices and to support their acquisition of daily living skills.
We are devoted to the service-delivery and support of people living with severe and persistent mental illness and their loved ones. We are proud that our service programs are consumer driven, empowering, racially and culturally sensitive, flexible, strength-focused and incorporative of natural supports. Programs are designed to enhance the quality of life through direct support, housing, referrals, advocacy and skills training.
Volunteers of America received Mental Health America’s 2005 Outstanding Volunteer Award for commitment to the community in the area of advocacy due to our efforts to engage community members in our Mental Health Awareness Day Conference.
We offer a comprehensive spectrum of programs for people living with mental illness, from crisis stabilization to permanent housing.
