Ministry

Volunteers of America, an inter-denominational Christian church, has established the position of Agency Chaplain to help guide the organization in the principles upon which the organization was founded.  Ministers help provide clients, volunteers, staff and the community the experience of compassion, love and the healing presence of God.

Learn more about the founding of our Ministry.

The Agency Chaplain helps to develop and train ministers in our affiliate as well as  deepen the sense of community in Volunteers of America.  Throughout the organization there are quarterly worship services and spiritual celebrations, which are led by ministers of our agency.

Our Agency Chaplain also provides spiritual guidance and knowledge-based resources to the organization's ministers and professional staff related to meeting the spiritual needs of clients, especially those experiencing special challenges or disabilities.

OUR MINISTERS

Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge has 8 commissioned ministers throughout our organization, with an additional 10 due to be commissioned in June 2008.  Ministers go through extensive training and mentoring sessions in order to become commissioned. To become a minister of Volunteers of America you must accept the doctrinal teachings of the church and support the mission of the organization.  For more information, please contact our Agency Chaplain Bud Snowden at bsnowden@voagbr.org

A SUPPORTIVE EAR AND AN OPEN HEART

The Chaplain and ministers of Volunteers of America offer spiritual care and emotional support for clients, staff and their families in ways that respect your culture, religious beliefs and practices and your privacy.  In no way are we here to convert you to a certain religious belief. We're here to walk with you on your journey, offering a supportive ear and an open heart.  We will rejoice with you in good news or help you cope when the news is not so good. We are here to help you find strength and hope by helping you draw on your own spiritual resources.
