Behavioral Health Services for Children and Families

Therapeutic Group Home

Volunteers of America's Parker House is the only licensed Therapeutic Group Home in Louisiana for children ages 3-13 who are in the foster care system and have been diagnosed with a severe behavioral disorder or a mental illness. Many of the children in our care have also been severely abused and neglected. These children have often been through multiple foster family placements and need more care than a family setting can provide. Parker House can house up to eight children at a time with new children coming in as current residents are stabilized and successfully placed with a foster family, reunited with their own families or adopted.

At Parker House, our trained, professional staff are on duty 24 hours a day. Each child has an individual plan of care that includes physical, emotional and educational goals. Children go to schools and churches in the community and receive individual and group therapy by an on-site therapist. The children experience a positive discipline structure which helps prepare them for life with a responsible family member or a foster family. Treatment includes intensive counseling sessions in which the children learn to trust again, overcome fears and practice expressing their emotions in a constructive way.

Outpatient Counseling

Outpatient Treatment is offered to eligible children and their families to address a variety of mental, emotional, and behavioral needs. Therapists provide counseling to the children in their homes and schools at least once a week.
