Shelia D. Sterling has worked for Volunteers of America for more than 25 years in various roles. In 2011, she became the Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge. Prior to this role, she was the Vice President of Southwest Louisiana Programs. Shelia is also a Volunteers of America commissioned minister and a licensed social worker. Under her leadership, the organization was accredited by CARF International in 2014. As Chief Operating Officer, she works with the leadership team and is responsible for the overall management, development, and implementation of service programs in our 19 parish area. In addition, she manages the Information Technology Department, HUD Housing Operations, and Facility Maintenance Department.
Throughout her career, she has been involved in both community and professional groups. Currently, Shelia serves on the Board of Directors of The Community Provider Association, a statewide advocacy organization. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and was selected to be a member of the Manage Long Term Supports and Services Advisory Council for the Department of Health and Hospitals. Shelia is a member Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She is an active member of Baton Rouge Links, Incorporated, St Joseph's Academy Mother's Club and Baton Rouge Jack and Jill. She also completed the Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and is a Sustaining Member of The Junior League of Baton Rouge.
Shelia received her B.A. in Social Work from Northwestern State University and proceeded to Louisiana State University to attain her Master's in Social Work. In addition, she completed the Non-Profit Executive Program at University of Notre Dame through the Volunteers of America Executive Development Program.
